Arturo Rodríguez - Composer/Conductor
Selected as one of six fellows to participate at the Sundance Institute Composers Lab 2010, Arturo Rodríguez is an emerging composer of film and concert music, and a frequent guest conductor of orchestras in the United States, Mexico, and South America. Rodríguez has been commissioned to write music for the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration of Fort Worth, The Southeastern Festival of Song, The San Francisco Song Festival, Orquesta Sinfónica de la UANL, Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, ProArte Chamber Orchestra, the Langley Wind Symphony, The Honorary Consulate of Malaysia in Monterrey, Mexico, CONARTE, UNAC/Monterrey, among others.
Born in Monterrey, México, Rodríguez’s musical studies initiated at the School of Music of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, and continued at the National Music Conservatory of México, Texas Christian University, and Butler University. He has been a selected participant for the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop in Hollywood, CA (2003), the ASPEN Film Scoring Workshop (2001), and the 11th New York University Composer’s Seminar (2003). Some of his academic and professional influences include pianists José Feghali and Panayis Lyras, conductor Stanley DeRusha, and composers Blas Emilio Atehortúa, John Corigliano, and Richard Bellis.
Rodríguez is currently living between the cities of New York and Boston. His natural talent and knowledge of the orchestra have served him well, regularly collaborating with composers Osvaldo Golijov, Scott H. Salinas, Kareem Roustrom, and Sherri Chung, among others, as fellow composer and orchestrator. His music expands through a variety of genres, including symphonic, chamber, and electronic music. Rodríguez wrote the music for and produced his first feature-length film score for the Mexican production “Cuando las Cosas Suceden,” in 2006, and since then has written music for a variety of film, commercials, and multimedia projects. This first soundtrack, conducted by Rodríguez and performed by the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra, and his first album release, “From Earth to Mars: A Symphonic Journey,” performed by The New Millennium Philharmonic and recorded in Indianapolis, Indiana, are available on the internet.
